Welcome to 'Deliverance'; a game concept designed to help young people understand that evil entities like demons and spirits, do exist. Deliverance gives a physical form to the spiritual realm, a place where we spiritually fight against the forces of darkness.

In Deliverance, players will begin as a regular human being, and they can choose whether they want to play as male or female, and what name they would like their character to have. This character will start as a Christian moving to a new town; a town in which an evil presence resides, an evil that players will have to face.

Main Character

After moving into their new house, the character will then put on their armour, named the 'Armour of God'. This armour will help protect them in the battles they will have in the game. The player's actions can alter the 'stats' that the armour provides.

Armour of God

Helmet of Salvation: When characters turn to Christ, the player's stamina increases

Breastplate of Righteousness: Righteous decisions result in more health

Belt of Truth: When players are truthful, their allies in battle grow stronger

Shoes of Peace: Peaceful interaction, mean faster movements in battle

Shield of Faith: The stronger a character's in-game faith, the higher their defence

Sword of the Spirit: The more a player knows their scripture, the higher their attack

The player character's physical appearance will also change as their stats increase; each piece of armour will visibly become stronger. For example, if a player's faith grows, they will attain a metal shield, rather than a wooden one.

Player Statistics

The Neighbourhood

In the town that the character has moved to, there are a number of houses in a row, each belonging to a different character. The player character lives in a house that resembles a castle, which is reflective of their visual appearance. The first character that the player will encounter will be a fisherman named Peter, who will become his first ally in his future battles. His house is situated by a pier that runs out over a lake, and can be seen on the image at the top of the screen. This area of the game is in a 2D side-scroller format; players are able to use the 'WASD' or 'Arrow keys' to move left and right, and 'Click' to interact with people or items.

Battles

Battles will be a common occurrence for the player, and they will take place in a turn based format. When a player engages an enemy in battle, the battle will commence with the player being on the left and the enemy on the right.

The player and the enemy will then taking it in turns to perform a move, whether that is to attack or defend themselves is down to the player. The player's health bar and stamina bar will also be visible on the screen during battles, as well as the enemies.

The image shown here is of a box the contains a number of evil spirits. This enemy is named Legion, which is a reference to Mark 5, and Luke 8 in the Bible, where Jesus drives an evil spirit out of a man and into a herd of pigs.

Houses

The player can only enter a person's house with the permission of the owner, but once they are inside, the game format changed to point and click. A player can click on an item or place, and the player will walk over/interact with the item. Players will also have an inventory to store useful items, and can view their inventory at anytime during the game, except for during battles.

Spiritual Realm

The player character has the ability to see into the spiritual realm; a dimension where spirits and demons reside, and where they can influence things in the 'real' world. A player will be able to view the spiritual realm whenever they wish, and can switch between viewpoints on command (except for during battles, where the view is fixed in the spiritual realm). Viewing the spiritual realm can give the players clues on how to progress, for instance, if they see spirits coming out of a locked box, they will need to find a key to engage them in battle.
