Spare Chair
This game is quite simple, but can be great fun to play. It is best played with 8 people or more, but an excess of players can make the game to difficult to play. For this game, an equal number of chairs to players is needed. It is also known as the 'Bun Shuffle' game.
The chairs should be formed into a circle, all facing inwards towards the centre.
All players should then take a seat. Then one player should stand, and move to the centre of the circle.
The player in the middle should then attempt to take a seat on the spare chair.
The player to the left/right of the chair (direction should be chosen before starting the game) will attempt to prevent the player in the middle from sitting on the spare chair, by sitting on it themselves.
This continues around the circle in the chosen direction, until the player in the middle finally manages to take a seat on the chair.
The player who fails to prevent the player from sitting must then take their place in the centre of the circle. Play then continues as before, for as long as desired.
This game is easy to play, but requires access to chairs. It reflects principles such as determination (to get the seat), and frustration (at not getting the seat). As previously stated, having too many people playing can make it too difficult to play, as it means the player in the middle would have to cover too big a distance to try to sit down. Having a referee for this game would also be beneficial, and in the instance of the video above, a whistle could be used to change the direction of movement.
