The Resistance
In 'The Resistance', each player is allotted a character, some being good guys, some being bad guys. Evil players are aware of their fellow conspirators, while those who fight for good are unaware where their fellow player's loyalties lie. Thus a great deal of deduction, accusation and deception become an integral part of the game, making you question who your friends really are.
The Resistance places players into roles of either members of the resistance, or traitorous spies. There are a number of different versions of 'The Resistance' available, so player roles can vary between games. For example, in the 'Avalon' version of the game, players can either be loyal servants of King Arthur, or minions of the Evil Mordred. There is even a Sci-Fi (Science Fiction) version of the game available, so it is easy to find a version that suits the people that you intend to play it with.
For the good guys, the aim is for 3 missions to be successful, and for the bad guys, it is for 3 missions to fail. There are also a number of layers that can be added to the game to make it more interesting. For example, in the Avalon version, the character Merlin is aware of who the bad guys are, and the character Oberon remains unknown to all players.
For this game, it helps to have a copy of the game itself, having all the rules and cards ready to play. However, if the game is not accessible, then a simple deck of cards can be used, allocating a character to a number of cards in the deck. If you find this game particularly interesting, and don't have time or funds to purchase the game, then you can download a printable version created for the Avalon version of the game.
It is recommended to purchase a copy of the game, for a higher quality and more immersive experience. This game is also a great social game to play with young people, especially on a residential or camp, in the evening before bed. It encourages social interaction between the young people, and can help both the leaders and the youth themselves to understand each other's characteristics, such as behaviour when lying. The rules can be a little complicated to understand, so it is recommended for leaders to play and learn the game, so they can explain the rules in an understandable manner.
